LONDON: MILLIONS PAUSE TO REMEMBER!
THOUSANDS gathered in London's central Trafalgar Square overnight for an evening vigil to remember the victims of last Thursday's suicide bombings in the British capital.Under bright sunshine, and banners that read "London United," they joined Mayor Ken Livingstone and others - including a rap crew - in pledging that the attacks will not tear the city's rich multicultural fabric.
Mr Livingstone recalled how Trafalgar Square had been alive with celebration when London was awarded the 2012 Olympic Games just a day before the bombing of three Underground subway trains and a double-decker bus.
Fifty-three people have been confirmed dead, and some 700 injured, with the death toll certain to rise.
"In seven years' time, when the Games begin, sitting at the front of the stadium, and watching the 200 teams that will come from every nation, will be those who were maimed but survived, and the relatives of those who died," the mayor said.
He added: "Those who came here to kill last Thursday had many goals. But one was that we should turn on each other, like animals trapped in a cage, and they failed, totally and utterly." Continue reading...
