SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – THE CALL TO HOLINESS.

God did not call us to live in immorality, but in holiness. So then, whoever rejects this teaching is not rejecting a human being, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. - 1 Thess 4:7-8.

When God called us to be his followers, it was not that we should lead lives of immorality, but lives of holiness. The Lord calls none of us into his family to live unholy lives, but He calls us that we may be taught and empowered, to walk before him in holiness. We should, therefore, fulfill the purpose, for which we were called into His kingdom.

The call to holiness is easy to ignore in a world which lives by much different standards. Satan gets us to compare our lifestyle with those around us, deceiving us into denigrating our sins, in comparison to others. But the issue is not in comparing our sins; the issue is a thankful heart that has been cleansed by the Holy Spirit, and saved by grace. Ignoring, or watering down, the Spirit's call for holiness is rejecting God.

Let's be passionate about holiness in our lives, both because it is what God wants, and also because it is what we should seek.

Loving Father, forgive me for trying to water down the significance of my sin. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to fire up in me a passion for holiness, and empower me to live in a way which honours you. In the wonderful Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged!
