DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT TUESDAY - WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO BE? Part 1.
All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen. - Ralph Waldo Emerson.
We will not keep them from our children; we will tell the next generation about the LORD's power and his great deeds and the wonderful things he has done. He gave laws to the people of Israel and commandments to the descendants of Jacob. He instructed our ancestors to teach his laws to their children, so that the next generation might learn them and in turn should tell their children. In this way they also will put their trust in God and not forget what he has done, but always obey his commandments. - Psa 78:4-8. (GNB)
A television program preceding the 1988 Winter Olympics featured blind skiers being trained for slalom skiing, impossible as that sounds. Paired with sighted skiers, the blind skiers were taught on the flats how to make right and left turns. When that was mastered, they were taken to the slalom slope, where their sighted partners skied beside them shouting, "Left!" and "Right!" As they obeyed the commands, they were able to negotiate the course and cross the finish line, depending solely on the sighted skiers' word. It was either complete trust or catastrophe.
What a vivid picture of the Christian life! In this world, we are in reality blind about what course to take. We must rely solely on the Word of the only One who is truly sighted--God Himself. His Word gives us the direction we need to finish the course. - Robert W. Sutton.
GOD WANTS US TO BE A PEOPLE WHO TRUST IN HIM
As Christians we still have the past as a large part of our makeup. We remember past failures and defeats and feel the burden of them pressing down on us, but we should remember, as the Psalmist reminds us, past victories and successes, and be lifted to the heights by them. If we look to the victories and rejoice, to the defeats only to learn from them, we would be unbeatable in our spirits. Hallelujah!
We Must Not Trust In man’s Ways.
The LORD says, "I will condemn those who turn away from me and put their trust in human beings, in the strength of mortals. He is like a bush in the desert, which grows in the dry wasteland, on salty ground where nothing else grows. Nothing good ever happens to him. Jer. 17:5-6.
If we put any confidence in man, we shall be like a bush in the desert, a naked tree, a sorry shrub, the product of barren ground, useless and worthless. Those who trust to their own righteousness and strength, and think they can do without Christ, live in the flesh, and their souls cannot prosper in beauty or comforts.
George Gordon Liddy, Watergate conspirator recently released from prison: "I have found within myself all I need and all I ever shall need. I am a man of great faith, but my faith is in George Gordon Liddy. I have never failed me." - The Christian Century.
When God spoke of all the curses it was because they trusted their walls for their defence... They will attack every town in the land that the LORD your God is giving you, and the high, fortified walls in which you trust will fall. - Deut. 28:52. We must not put up walls of our own and keep counsel out, otherwise we will fail. Apart from Jesus Christ we can do nothing, let’s give Him all of our problems and circumstances, as He commands us to, and He will give us rest
God says those who trust in riches will fall... See what happens to those who trust in themselves, the fate of those who are satisfied with their wealth they are doomed to die like sheep, and Death will be their shepherd. The righteous will triumph over them, as their bodies quickly decay in the world of the dead far from their homes. - Ps. 49:13-14.
If ever there was a warning to those ‘Prosperity Preachers’ it is this! God is warning us about the folly of this doctrine, that if we are rich we are safe and can do anything, how sad it is when they find out this is deceit and fail. Let us remember the Word of the Lord… Trust in Him for everything!
We are even reminded not to trust religion... Stop believing those deceitful words, 'We are safe! This is the LORD's Temple, this is the LORD's Temple, this is the LORD's Temple!' - Jer. 7:4. This was repeated 3 times, to emphasize the rejection of the cry , that was always upon the lips of the false prophets. In their view, the maintenance of the temple service, was a charm sufficient to avert all evil. How ludicrous, religion will kill our spirit!
There is no situation I can get into that God cannot get me out. Some years ago when I was learning to fly, my instructor told me to put the plane into a steep and extended dive. I was totally unprepared for what was about to happen. After a brief time the engine stalled, and the plane began to plunge out-of-control. It soon became evident that the instructor was not going to help me at all. After a few seconds, which seemed like eternity, my mind began to function again. I quickly corrected the situation.
Immediately I turned to the instructor and began to vent my fearful frustrations on him. He very calmly said to me, "There is no position you can get this airplane into that I cannot get you out of. If you want to learn to fly, go up there and do it again." At that moment God seemed to be saying to me, "Remember this. As you serve Me, there is no situation you can get yourself into that I cannot get you out of. If you trust me, you will be all right." That lesson has been proven true in my ministry many times over the years. - James Brown.
LET US BE A PEOPLE WHO PUT OUR TRUST IN GOD!
Loving Father, help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to trust you completely, for everything in my life. In Jesus wonderful name I pray. Amen!
