DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT - WEDNESDAY: “…encourage one another…”

Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all... As long as matters are really hopeful, hope is mere flattery or platitude; it is only when everything is hopeless that hope begins to be a strength. - G.K. Chesterton.
--------------------------------------------------------
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. - 1Thess 5:11. (ESV)

Most unsaved people today do not care about where they will spend eternity, because they are blinded by sin. Paul was sent by Jesus… to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' - Act 26:18.

Christians, who have the brightness of the blessed gospel reflecting in their faces, need to be careful about their souls, and mindful of Heaven. We need the three Christian graces, faith, love, and hope.

Faith; if we believe that God is always watching us and that there is another world to prepare for. We need to watch and be clear-headed.

True and fervent love to God, and the things of God, will keep us watchful and restrained… Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1Peter 5:8.

If we bring hope of salvation, let us be mindful of anything, which would cause us to question our trust in God. Our faith can be shaken, but hold fast, remember that Jesus died for us, so that we may obtain salvation. He took all of our sins upon Himself on the cross, that we might be forgiven and begin a new life in Him! For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Mar 10:45.

Let us join with one another and praise His wonderful name! We must set an example for each other, so that the unsaved may know that we are Disciples of Christ Jesus, by this we shall learn how to live to Him, Jesus, our hope to live for ever!...

"Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not quarrel or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets; a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory; and in his name the Gentiles will hope." - Mat 12:18 – 21.

The school system in a large city had a program to help children keep up with their school work during stays in the city's hospitals. One day a teacher who was assigned to the program received a routine call asking her to visit a particular child.

She took the child's name and room number and talked briefly with the child's regular class teacher. "We're studying nouns and adverbs in his class now," the regular teacher said, "and I'd be grateful if you could help him understand them so he doesn't fall too far behind."

The hospital program teacher went to see the boy that afternoon. No one had mentioned to her that the boy had been badly burned and was in great pain. Upset at the sight of the boy, she stammered as she told him, "I've been sent by your school to help you with nouns and adverbs." When she left she felt she hadn't accomplished much.

But the next day, a nurse asked her, "What did you do to that boy?" The teacher felt she must have done something wrong and began to apologize. "No, no," said the nurse. "You don't know what I mean. We've been worried about that little boy, but ever since yesterday, his whole attitude has changed. He's fighting back, responding to treatment. It's as though he's decided to live."

Two weeks later the boy explained that he had completely given up hope until the teacher arrived. Everything changed when he came to a simple realization. He expressed it this way: "They wouldn't send a teacher to work on nouns and adverbs with a dying boy, would they?"

Loving Father, Thank you for your word, which tells us to encourage one another. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to really encourage someone today! Help me by the same power to show your hope to a dying world. In Jesus wonderful name I pray!
