ONE'S COMPANY... TWO'S A CROWD!

A BRITISH mum bidding to become the first woman to ski solo to the North Geographic Pole has had another close encounter with a polar bear.

Ann Daniels, 40, has now skied 115 nautical miles in 18 days across the moving Arctic Ocean. She said: "I saw a polar bear watching me. He followed me at a distance, and I crossed behind him so I could keep an eye on him. After a while he lost interest."

Nine days ago Ms Daniels, from Devon, who has 405 miles to go, had to use her .44 Magnum handgun to scare off another bear which had approached her tent early in the morning.
